Selling safely

Selling safely and confirming payment

Protect your item and account while responding to buyers and completing a sale.

Handling enquiries

  • Keep initial messages inside Local Ads.
  • Do not share passwords, one-time codes or unnecessary identity documents.
  • Be cautious when a buyer sends a courier or payment link.
  • Agree the item, price, meeting point and payment method clearly.

Confirm payment yourself

For bank transfers, open your own banking app and confirm that cleared funds are visible. Do not rely on screenshots, emails or a buyer showing a pending transfer. For cash, count it before handing over the item.

After the sale

  1. 1Provide any agreed receipt or ownership document.
  2. 2Remove personal data from phones, computers and smart devices.
  3. 3Mark the listing unavailable so other buyers do not continue enquiring.

Common questions

Can a pending bank transfer be cancelled?

Payment states vary by bank. Do not hand over an item until funds are visible and available in your own account.

Should I accept a courier arranged by the buyer?

Only if you independently trust the arrangement. Do not enter card or banking details into a link supplied by the buyer.
