How to Sell a Digital Piano or Keyboard in Ireland
Document the keys, pedals, power supply and stand, explain the checks you performed, and give buyers the measurements they need for collection.

A buyer choosing a used digital piano is usually trying to answer practical questions: does it fit the room, are the keys behaving consistently, and will the stand and pedal come with it? A good advert makes those answers easy to find. Whether you are selling a portable keyboard after an upgrade or making space by moving on a cabinet-style instrument, start with the exact model and the complete bundle. Do not rely on a photograph of the front panel to tell the whole story.
Name the instrument precisely
Use the manufacturer's label to identify the model, including a suffix where one is present. A digital piano, portable keyboard and stage piano can have different features, but the label alone does not prove the number or type of keys. Verify specifications in the correct manual before writing weighted keys, hammer action, Bluetooth audio or USB recording. A USB connection is not a promise that every computer or music app will work with it.
Yamaha provides a searchable download service for its own products; other makers have their own support libraries. Use the appropriate source rather than copying a shop description for a newer instrument. State whether the power adapter is the correct specified one and whether it is original or a compatible replacement. A keyboard without its power supply should not be described as a ready-to-play complete package unless a verified alternative is included.
Create a clear record of ordinary playing checks
If the instrument is safe to operate, play each key and describe any sticking, unusual noise or inconsistent response you notice. Check at an ordinary listening volume. Try the included pedal and any output you know how to use safely, but distinguish a tested headphone socket from an untested line output. You are reporting observations, not certifying the internal electronics or promising that an intermittent fault cannot occur.
Details to record before you write the advert
- Exact model, finish, verified key count and known purchase history.
- Any keys that stick, fail to sound, feel different or make an unusual mechanical noise.
- Speaker, pedal and headphone checks you actually performed.
- Display or button faults, damaged sockets, missing knobs and known repairs.
- Power adapter, music rest, pedal, stand, bench and case included in the price.
- Overall dimensions, collection access and whether the stand can be separated using the manual.
If you do not play, say so and offer a reasonable opportunity for an experienced buyer to inspect it. Do not translate powers on into fully tested. If the power cable is damaged or there is an electrical concern, stop the demonstration and seek suitable advice. Avoid opening the case or attempting repairs simply to remove a fault from the description. Known issues belong in the listing, even if the instrument remains useful for another purpose.
Show the instrument and every accessory
Photograph the full keyboard, key surfaces, controls, rear connections and model label. Add close-ups of wear on the key edges or cabinet and a separate accessory photograph. A bench appearing beside a piano can easily be mistaken for part of the sale, so make the boundary explicit. Do not photograph a borrowed stand as though it is included. Where a stand has missing fittings or a bench is unstable, describe the issue rather than arranging the picture to hide it.
Price the model, not the word piano
Compare the exact generation and accessory package with similar Irish offers. A portable instrument with a pedal and case is a different bundle from the keyboard alone. A cabinet model may require more collection planning, which can affect who can realistically buy it. Do not base the asking price on the current retail price of a different generation or assume an advertised price proves a sale. Explain optional extras separately if you are willing to split the bundle.
An example digital-piano description
Example only: Portable digital piano, exact model in the photographs. All keys sounded during an ordinary playing check this week; headphones and the included sustain pedal were also checked. Correct power adapter and music rest included. Stand and bench not included. Light marks on the rear edge, with one larger scuff pictured. USB connection not tested. Asking EUR 230, collection in Cork. Inspection welcome by arrangement. Use the real model, condition, accessories and price for your own instrument, not these illustrative details.
Prepare for a safe, organised handover
Record the instrument's size and the collection route before agreeing that it will fit in a car. For a cabinet-style model, check the maker's assembly and transport instructions and arrange enough help; do not assume it can be moved like an acoustic piano or carried by one person. Keep fixings labelled if a stand is dismantled. Pack the correct adapter and pedal together so they do not get left behind.
Back up personal recordings you want to keep, then follow the model's instructions for removing user data, paired devices or network settings where applicable. Do not promise included software licences or downloads are transferable without checking their terms. Agree the inspection and collection time privately, confirm payment independently and mark the instrument sold after collection. A measured, specific advert is more useful to a music student or local player than a promise that the piano is perfect for everyone.
