Used furniture can sell well locally because buyers often want affordable pieces they can inspect and collect without waiting for retail delivery. The biggest obstacles are rarely the age of the item. They are missing measurements, photographs that hide condition and collection details that arrive only after a buyer has committed time.

A useful furniture advert allows someone to answer three questions immediately: will it fit in the intended room, will it fit through the route home, and does its real condition justify the price? Preparing those answers before publication saves messages and reduces failed collections.

Identify the piece accurately

Describe the furniture by its actual type and material. Solid wood, veneer, laminate and engineered board are not interchangeable terms. If a maker's label or model is visible, photograph it. State the colour in ordinary language and mention the style only when it is genuinely useful. Do not label a recently manufactured item as antique or vintage without reliable support.

Measure the item and its exit route

Keep buyers out of unrelated private areas and have another adult present where possible. Do not allow unqualified dismantling that risks injury or property damage.

Verify electronic payment in your own account rather than trusting a screenshot or message. Receiving payment does not require entering card details through a buyer's courier link. When the handover is complete, mark the listing sold or unavailable promptly so other buyers do not make unnecessary journeys.

Improve an advert that is not moving

Check whether the first image identifies the furniture instantly and whether measurements appear near the top. Compare the current price again, add missing access details and answer repeated questions in the description. Seasonal moving periods may affect interest, but accurate presentation and realistic collection arrangements remain more dependable than repeatedly reposting the same advert.
