Clear the workshop, not the useful details

Sell Used Power Tools in Ireland

An unused drill, sander or saw could be useful to someone finishing their next project. Create a free Local Ads advert that tells buyers exactly which tool they are getting, what powers it and what is included. Choose your asking price and agree the sale directly, without buying promotion to get started.

Free standard listing. Optional paid promotion. Buyers contact you directly; you agree payment and handover.

A direct selling plan

Prepare a useful advert in three steps

01

Identify the tool and power system

Read the model label and record the exact model, voltage and whether it is corded or cordless. Describe a bare tool differently from a kit with batteries and a charger.

02

Document condition and contents

Photograph the tool, label, accessories and wear. State what you tested, what you did not test and any known fault without claiming a professional inspection.

03

Price the actual package

Compare equivalent models and included parts. Add your county and locality, then agree a suitable inspection and collection arrangement with interested buyers.

Bare tool or complete kit: make the distinction obvious

A bare cordless drill and a boxed kit can look similar in search results but represent different purchases. Put 'bare tool' in the title if there is no battery or charger. For a kit, list every included battery and charger rather than leaving buyers to infer the contents from a photograph.

Do not assume two batteries are compatible just because their brands or advertised voltages match. Give the model and platform information you can substantiate, and let buyers check their own equipment. If you are unsure about compatibility, say so rather than promising that it will fit every tool from the same manufacturer.

Compare like-for-like asking prices

Start with the exact model and a comparable package. A replacement charger, a missing case or heavily used batteries can change what buyers consider reasonable. The original price of every accessory is not automatically added to the value of the used kit.

Current adverts show what sellers are asking, not necessarily what buyers paid. Use them as context, then explain the condition of your own item. If you are selling several tools together, give one unambiguous bundle price and say whether you will consider splitting it. Avoid advertising the price of a small accessory as though it buys the whole set.

Show wear and testing honestly

Take a full view, a readable model-label photo and close-ups of important wear. Keep personal details from invoices out of the images. If the tool has only been switched on briefly, describe that limited check rather than calling it fully tested under load.

Disclose missing guards, damaged cables, unusual noises and any known battery problems. Do not demonstrate a tool you believe is unsafe or describe it as ready for use. A listing is not a safety certification; refer to the manufacturer's instructions and resolve whether the item is appropriate to sell before posting.

What your advert should include

  • Brand and full model number, with corded or cordless power type.
  • Battery platform and the capacity printed on each included battery.
  • Charger, case, handles, guards and accessories included in the asking price.
  • Known faults, missing parts, previous repairs and testing limitations.
  • Clear photographs of the actual tool, not only its packaging.
  • Collection area and whether the items are sold together or separately.

Common seller questions

Where do I list power tools on Local Ads?

Start with Home & Garden, then choose Tools & DIY and the closest power-tool category. Use the product model in the title so a buyer can identify the equipment.

Can I sell a tool without its battery?

Yes, if the listing clearly says bare tool and makes clear that no battery or charger is included. Do not show unrelated accessories in a way that suggests they are part of the sale.

Should I publish the serial number or purchase invoice?

Keep full identifiers and private invoice details out of the public advert. If legitimate proof of ownership is available, discuss an appropriate redacted copy privately.

Does a free advert require paid promotion later?

No. A standard marketplace advert is free. Optional paid visibility is separate and does not guarantee a buyer or a sale.
