Not right for you, useful to someone else

Sell Unwanted Gifts in Ireland

A duplicate gadget, unused hobby item or gift that does not fit your home may be useful to another person. Create a free advert in its proper product category and explain exactly what is included, whether it has been opened and what a buyer can inspect.

Free standard listing. Optional paid promotion. Buyers contact you directly; you agree payment and handover.

A direct selling plan

Prepare a useful advert in three steps

01

Identify the actual product

Use the product type, brand and model where known. Choose its normal category rather than treating every gift as the same kind of item.

02

Explain opened versus unused

Say whether the packaging is sealed, opened or missing, and whether the item has been tried or used. Photograph the actual gift and accessories.

03

Choose a realistic price

Compare the same item and condition. Consider missing receipts, damaged packaging and included extras rather than assuming its original retail price is recoverable.

Unused does not always mean sealed

Buyers may distinguish a sealed item from one you opened to try. Describe that difference plainly. If you have not tested the product, say so instead of claiming every function works. Use your own photos rather than relying only on a shop's product picture.

Do not upload a gift receipt containing another person's contact or payment information. If a legitimate receipt is available, discuss a suitably redacted copy privately. Do not promise returns or a manufacturer's warranty unless you know those terms apply to the buyer.

Keep the listing about the item

You do not need to tell buyers who gave you the present or why you do not want it. A short explanation such as 'duplicate gift' is enough; the useful information is what the buyer receives and its condition.

Use separate adverts for unrelated gifts and one clearly priced bundle for items that belong together. Some products have additional marketplace restrictions, so check the posting guidance rather than assuming every gift is suitable for sale.

Common seller questions

Should I call an opened gift new?

Choose the condition that accurately describes it and explain that the packaging was opened. Mention any testing or use so buyers are not left to infer what new means.

Do I need the original receipt?

Say whether you have a legitimate receipt, but do not fabricate one or publish someone else's private details. Missing proof of purchase may affect a buyer's decision.

Will Local Ads guarantee a sale?

No. Posting is free, but interest depends on the item, price, condition and buyers. You remain in control of whether to accept an offer.
